THE ROOT

WHO IS THIS FOR?

Anyone wishing to experience a deep, therapeutic or relaxing massage session for wellness & recovery. Men can book this option.

BOOK THIS SESSION FOR:

-Chronic pain

-Headaches

-Chronic tension/stress

-Alignment

-To address mobility & range of motion.

-To relax

The Root is a massage that works the whole body, or parts of it as requested, & which brings particular focus to the release of the hip/pelvic muscles & the tension that nestles within our core as the base for general tension release of the body. Regardless of working the upper body or the lower limbs, every session has deep core work (hips, lower back, ribs) because by releasing our center, the body opens in ways I am yet to experience in other forms of bodywork. This massage is unique to TM&O Co & it is you who designs the session for therapeutic and/or relaxation purposes. I bring my knowledge from the East & West in all my offerings & combine it with your needs & requests (areas to treat, pressure requested) with a holistic approach, to ensure each part of the body I work on is address from the core.

-To relax.

This unique session combines the therapeutic work of Thai Style Foot Massage* together with an Ayurvedic inspired Head Massage.**

The session begins with a leg & foot massage, it continues with a chest, neck, shoulder & head massage while laying down & resting. Warmth on the feet & back keeps the client relaxed. After the head massage is done, the massage will continue on a seated position to conclude with a slow transition out of the relaxing state with a Thai style neck & shoulder massage & stretching session. Therapeutic, relaxing & reinvigorating.

*Thai Style Foot Massage is relaxing & healing, reflexology inspired, form of bodywork working the zones on the feet that reflect specific areas of your body.

**Ayurvedic inspired Head Massage is a deeply relaxing yet invigorating head, neck & chest massage.

+This massage is best when oils are directly applied on the hair & scalp. Do ask for this special treat for no extra charge. At Home-services include an additional stretching session.

The Rebozo Bodywork Stuff

Who is this for? Women wishing to experience the uniqueness of a traditional & exclusive form of bodywork with magnificent alignment & restorative benefits that gently rock, stretch & wrap your body.

This traditional form of bodywork is beneficial to any woman wishing to experience the realigning & relaxing value of this Mexican inspired technique*. Enhance your general wellness with this experience which involves the use of a Rebozo** to rock, tighten & stretch different parts of the body. following traditional beliefs, the massage follows a ground to crown approach, working the energy up & through the body from the feet upwards to the head.

It is a beautiful form of bodywork which includes full body treatment for realignment & energy balancing.

*The use of Rebozo for bodywork is common across Latin America & similar treatments are traditional to other cultures around Africa, Asia & Europe. As a Mexican myself, I work the traditional Mexican approach & use handmade Rebozos bought in Mexico as this is what honors my own culture.

**A Rebozo is a traditional Mexican cloth (some say scarf but this is not correct) use for various purposes including bodywork.

The Pregnancy Services Stuff

This Segment is Under Construction. Check Back Soon.

I’ve never had a pregnancy massage before, what should I expect?

The massage will take 45 or 80 minutes, depending on your choice. For the longer version, you will lay down on each side for half the duration of the session & I will work on whichever areas are of main concern for you, while tending to the body as a unite to provide you a wholistic experience. My work in general has very deep focus on the hips & the core of the body but the massage covers feet, legs, back, arms, neck & head/face massage. The shorter version, 45 minutes, is best for mothers who are looking for more focused care. I can work on your upper or lower body; the left or right side depending on your needs; I may also focus on two areas, for example the legs & lower back or the arms & feet. It’s really up to you. You may lay down half dressed or fully undressed under the covers; wearing underwear is optional & disposable wear is available. Pregnancy massage is safe at any stage in pregnancy.

When can I start with pregnancy massage?

Any time from conception to delivery. Massage therapy is safe at any stage of pregnancy & several studies have proven there is no correlation between massage & pregnancy loss.

I’m over 34 weeks pregnant, can I still have massage?

Yes, with the proper provider, massage is even recommended in late pregnancy to reduce discomfort & induce relaxation. You may have massage even past your due date & while in labor.

Is massage dangerous in pregnancy?

Massage is not dangerous in pregnancy but different massage providers may provide different levels of safety. Things to pay attention include the pressure used should be light but firm, deep pressure may bruise a pregnant woman easily; assisted stretching of any kind is not recommended in pregnancy due to the levels of relaxin hormone released by the mother’s body; oils & products with smell may induce headaches & migraines; the positioning of the mother should be side laying from early pregnancy (seated & facedown positions are not optimal at any stage in pregnancy); cleanliness of the space is essential to avoid falls; etc. Please email me if you have any specific concerns.

Why should I seek care by a trained provider?

Because massage therapy is a profession which requires knowledge of the body anatomy to make manipulations & provide care to different ailments of the body. Any provider that works with manual therapy is taking responsibility over your body & the knowledge to do so takes more than a 30 hour class. Trained & certified massage therapists have undergone extensive training in areas such as general anatomy, muscle anatomy, multiple modalities, basics of Chinese medicine, ethics, medical errors, common diseases & ailments, etc. Additionally, experience has been obtained by extensive supervised practice (over 200 hours of clinical practice) & have liability insurance for themselves, the clients & their equipment. Most massage therapists will also have requirements to continuously upgrade their knowledge & will be involved in further education, re-certifications & in depth trainings to be up to date with the most recent knowledge in massage therapy. In Norway, you may find the most qualified providers through the Norges Massasjeforbund (NMF).

Why don’t you use a pregnancy pillow so I can lay down on my belly?

There are all kinds of schools of learning & beliefs about massage therapy. Personally I do not believe these pillows provide any advantage which may be achieved by side laying, and in a way, the positioning is deceiving for the type of pressure & manipulations that are actually safe for pregnant women. Side laying allows to work the body from head to toe while keeping the mother comfortable through the whole session. Side laying also allows proper stabilizing of the knee to hip degree of angle ratio which allows for better work

What kind of oil or products do you use on pregnant women?

  2. For vaginal births with no complications we can begin from day 1 after the birth, I normally recommend to take a couple of days to settle in at home before the first massage but it is up to you when to book your appointment.

  3. For cesarean births with no complications we can begin from Week 4 after the birth.

  4. For any birth with complications we can begin from the moment your healthcare provider clears you for massage, I normally recommend bring a note from your provider, but as I work on an honor system with mothers, you word and accepting the Terms & Conditions of Service in the Massage for Postpartum Form that comes with your booking is enough for me to proceed.

  5. Babies are welcome to be present at the massage. If you choose to bring your baby to the Studio, please give a a couple of hours notice to plan your session accordingly.

  6. Mothers with small babies are allowed to bring one caretaker to accompany the baby. The caretaker may sit in during the massage or wait in the apartment adjacent to the studio (The apartment is my place of residence but it is clean and disinfected daily to maintain the same standard of safety and hygiene that I provide in the studio. The caretaker will be comfortable and undisturbed with your baby.

  7. The booking for a Massage for Postpartum can be cancelled without notice up to two times. After two cancellations one appointment must take place before any other cancellation can incur free of charge. After completing one session, you can again book and have cancellation free of fees two more times. This flexibility is a special consideration for All Mothers with babies under 12 months of age at The Milk & Oil Company because I understand that motherhood is unpredictable, that moms may have difficult days or that you simply feel too tired or touched out to attend to your session.

  8. I provide free of charge, last minute changes and cancellations to ensure mothers can have access to bodywork without the need to stress for last minute changes and the costly fees these changes incur. However, after a third booking is changed or cancelled last minute (within 24hrs) you will be invoiced for the full amount of the session. I work on an honor system with mothers, if you choose not to pay for the third cancelled session, no one will come and demand you to pay; but you may forfeit your right to book without an advanced payment. Please help me keep this promise to all mothers by accepting this extremely flexible terms of service.

Motherhood Massage & Bodywork Sessions: Terms & Conditions of Service

Motherhood Massage Sessions include Pregnancy & Postpartum Massage & Bodywork.

Massage for Pregnancy:

  1. You must fill out the Pregnancy Massage Form that comes to you on your confirmation email before any session can be completed. The questions asked are key for me to get the necessary information regarding your health before & during pregnancy to make the most out of our session.

  2. There are a few cases where the Pregnancy Massage may be cancelled after booking, these include but are not limited to, a health condition that contraindicates massage such as bleeding that has not been cleared by your healthcare provider as “no risk”; dizziness or headaches that impair your ability to function; hyperemesis gravidarum or extreme morning sickness that is not under control; an indication of bedrest by your healthcare provider; high-blood pressure; mental health concerns; among others. In most cases, a note from your doctor clearing you for massage will suffice to continue.

  3. You can wave the need for a doctor's letter by agreeing to the Terms & Conditions in the Massage for Pregnancy Form, where you acknowledge that it is your choice to proceed & that you are aware there is no scientific proof that massage can be linked to early labor or loss.

  4. The booking for a Massage for Pregnancy can be cancelled within 24 hrs of the appointment up to two times. After two cancellations one appointment must take place before any other cancellation can incur free of charge. After completing one session, you can again book & have cancellation free of fees two more times. This flexibility is a special consideration for Pregnant Mothers at The Milk & Oil Company because I understand that motherhood is unpredictable, that pregnancy may have difficult days or that you simply feel too tired or uncomfortable.

  5. Please help me keep this promise to all mothers by accepting this extremely flexible terms of service.
